Stormy - Part 2

Hi! I’m Stormy. You may have heard of me. I was found starving and half frozen in a recent snow storm. I was near death. It’s hard for me to talk about but if you want the story check the MSPCA at Nevins Farm blog post from 12/31 http://www.mspca.org/adoption/methuen-nevins/blogs/ or my Foster Mom’s blog from 1/3.

Honestly, when I arrived at the MSPCA I was a mess! I was only 2lbs 4 oz. – just skin and bones. That’s about how much an 8 week old kitten weighs. The staff actually thought I was a kitten until they saw my teeth and realized I was an adult cat. I was too weak to groom myself so I was filthy and smelled bad too! A whole team of animal care specialists immediately began working on me. They gave me fluids for dehydration, canned food that would not upset my stomach, and medicine for parasites and upper respiratory infection. The volunteers made me a nice, warm bed with lots of blankets and a heating pad to keep me comfortable. People stopped by frequently to check on me. No one was sure I would make it by their love and care gave me the will to live.

After a few days in the medical ward I moved to my foster home. My foster parents assured me they would take excellent care of me. I got my own room with a soft bed right next to the radiator, all the yummy food I could eat, and lots of toys.

My foster parents get so excited over the progress I make each day. The day I ate by myself; the day I was strong enough to meow and actually made a sound; the day I had enough energy to play with a toy; each small step means so much. The first time I did a normal poop I thought mom was going to take a picture for heaven’s sake! Believe me, after days of diarrhea and baths, it was a big deal for us all!

I am happy to report that I am making a rapid recovery. My coat is silky and soft. My haircut still looks terrible but when it grows out my foster mom says I’m going to be a knockout! I am eating like a truck driver and have doubled my weight since I arrived. Don’t you wish you could say that and be happy about it?? Another week or two of medicine and I should be good to go. Speaking of going, I already have a home to go to. My foster grandparents fell in love with me and want me to live with them. They said my new name will be Bella because I am so beautiful.  Isn’t that wonderful??

My new home has 2 dogs Dakota, a chocolate lab, and Suzy, a poodle mix. There is also a cat named Purr-cilla. My new dad rescued her when she was little and living on the streets like me. He says she looks a lot like me. I like having other cats to play with and snuggle with so I hope she likes me! My new mom told me I remind her of a cat she once had named Nermal. Nermal was a special favorite. He was a long haired, orange and white kitty like me. My mom found him living under her rhodenderon bush and, like me, he was starving and filthy. She took him in and he lived a long, happy life. I’m so lucky to be going to such a great home!

A Dark and Stormy Night...

Hi!  It’s Peaches.  I have been kinda bored since the last foster kitten left.  Mom says I have been a pill!  I’m just very smart and have lots of energy so I’m always looking for something to do or someone to play with.

Mom promised to bring me some playmates so I was excited when she left for the MSPCA Saturday morning.  I thought she was going to bring home some kittens who liked to run and tumble.  Instead she brought home this scrawny, smelly ball of fur.  Mom says we will call her Stormy for now.  I thought that was a silly name for a girl but Mom says the name is appropriate.

Stormy was found starving and half frozen in a recent snow storm.   When she arrived at the shelter the staff wasn’t sure she was going to make it.  (See the MSPCA at Nevins Farm 12/31 blog http://www.mspca.org/adoption/methuen-nevins/blogs/adoption-center-blog/)  I can see why.  She looks pathetic!  She is skin and bones.  She was dirty and didn’t smell very good.  Mom and her friend Suzanne gave Stormy a bath before she came here, but Stormy has yucky diarrhea so she needs a bath every time she uses the litter pan.  She would have long orange and white hair but it’s in pretty bad condition right now.  Lack of nutrition has made it dull and thin.  She must have been covered in mats because it looks like someone took a scissors to her.  They may have gotten the knots off but they did nothing to enhance her looks!  Mom says it looks like the haircuts her cousin used to give her dolls!  After a few more baths and some thorough brushing Stormy is actually starting to look like a cat.  I think she may need a few more dunkings before she actually smells like one though!

She has only been here a few days and she is already doing better.  She is eating well.  I am jealous because Stormy gets to eat whatever she wants whenever she wants.  Mom says that’s just because Stormy is too skinny and needs to gain weight and, once she is healthy she will be on the same diet as I am.  I’m still jealous.

I must admit, when Stormy is back on her feet she is going to be a beautiful cat.  She is going to have a gorgeous orange and white coat when it all grows out.  She is already capturing everyone’s heart with her sweet personality.  Stormy has an uphill battle but, if anyone can pull her through it is the staff, vet and foster team at the MSPCA!  Get well soon Stormy – I need a partner in crime!
